Look closely at this US-made rope and you can see how the braid pattern has been carefully engineered such that the individual fibers (each braid is made up of individual fibers, which for one braid we have traced in green on the image) are aligned with the length of the rope.  One of the many detailed design aspects found in top-quality ropes.
